Vantage Plan Helper for macOS

Use your Claude or ChatGPT subscription in Vantage Plan

Vantage Plan Helper is a small free Mac app that lets Vantage Plan use your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription for AI chat, instead of a paid API key.

It is included with Vantage Plan. You install it once, then Vantage Plan starts and stops it automatically when Account Login is switched on.

What the Helper does

Vantage Plan is a Mac App Store app. macOS keeps App Store apps in a protective sandbox, and that sandbox stops Vantage Plan from starting other programs on your Mac.

Vantage Plan Helper bridges that gap. It runs quietly in the background on your own Mac and passes Account Login chat requests to the AI command line tool you are already signed in to.

It has no window and no Dock icon. After installation, you should not need to think about it again.

Requirements

You need all three parts:

  1. Vantage Plan for Mac, with Account Login switched on in Settings, AI & Pro.
  2. Vantage Plan Helper, installed in your Applications folder.
  3. The AI tool you want to use, already signed in.

For a Claude subscription, install Anthropic's claude command line tool, then run this once in Terminal:

claude login

For a ChatGPT subscription, install OpenAI's codex command line tool, then run this once in Terminal:

codex login

You only do this sign-in step once. After that, you can close Terminal and use Vantage Plan normally.

Vantage Plan cannot perform the Claude or ChatGPT sign-in for you. That login belongs directly to Anthropic or OpenAI, and Vantage Plan never sees or stores your credentials.

Install Vantage Plan Helper

  1. Download the DMG and open it.
  2. Drag Vantage Plan Helper into your Applications folder.
  3. Open Vantage Plan.
  4. Go to Settings, AI & Pro.
  5. Switch on the Claude or ChatGPT Account Login option you want to use.

Vantage Plan starts the Helper by itself, and starts it again whenever you reopen the app.

Permissions

Vantage Plan Helper does not ask for Photos, Contacts, Local Network, or other macOS permissions.

It only listens on your own Mac at 127.0.0.1, also called loopback. It does not listen on the internet or your local network.

Security and privacy

Vantage Plan Helper never sees, stores, or transmits your Claude or ChatGPT login credentials.

The Claude or ChatGPT command line tool reads its own sign-in directly. The Helper only asks that tool for an answer.

Every request needs a secret key that only Vantage Plan can read. Requests without that key are refused.

The AI tool is run without file access, commands, plugins, or access to other tools you may have configured. It can read the question and write an answer. It cannot act on your Mac.

Your conversation goes to Anthropic or OpenAI under your own subscription, exactly as if you had typed it into their own tool. It does not pass through Vantage Plan servers.

Troubleshooting

Vantage Plan says "Helper not running"

Make sure Vantage Plan Helper is in your Applications folder, then switch Account Login off and on again in Settings, AI & Pro.

Vantage Plan says "Not signed in yet"

Run claude login or codex login once in Terminal, then reopen Vantage Plan Settings.

Chat still charges my API key

That is the safety fallback working. If the Helper or your subscription session is unavailable, Vantage Plan uses your API key so you are not blocked. Check the status line in Settings, AI & Pro.

Nothing happens

Quit Vantage Plan, reopen it, then check Settings, AI & Pro. The status line should show whether the Helper is running.

If you are still stuck, contact [email protected].

Uninstall

  1. In Vantage Plan, switch both Account Login toggles off. This shuts down the Helper.
  2. Drag Vantage Plan Helper from Applications to the Trash.
  3. Optional: Vantage Plan keeps a small settings file for the Helper inside its own data folder. It is harmless to leave, and is removed when you uninstall Vantage Plan.
